The Dhaulagiri Trek in Nepal is an adventurous and off-the-beaten-path Himalayan journey that takes trekkers through remote villages, lush rhododendron forests, high mountain passes, and breathtaking alpine landscapes. Known for offering stunning views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna, and Nilgiri peaks, this trek is perfect for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and cultural enthusiasts looking for an authentic Himalayan experience. Along the trail, trekkers encounter traditional Gurung and Magar villages, suspension bridges, and pristine rivers, making it a unique mix of natural beauty and cultural exploration. The trek is moderate to challenging in difficulty, with daily hikes ranging from 5–7 hours, and reaches high altitudes where proper acclimatization is essential. Ideal for trekking in Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November), the Dhaulagiri Trek promises remote trekking in Nepal, panoramic Himalayan views, and an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Himalayas.
Dhaulagiri trekking to the west of the Annapurna Range and the Kali Gandaki Gorge. The ancient river continued cutting through the rising Himalayan massif as India pushed its way under the Asian plate, creating the world’s deepest gorge. At one point, below Kobang, the floor is 5,6km below the summits.
Seven attempts were made to conquer Dhaulagiri before a Swiss expedition was successful in 1960. Our around Dhaulagiri trek to three high camps and Hidden Valley is demanding and scenically rewarding.
The Dhaulagiri trek begins from Beni in the lower Kali Gandaki Gorge and follows the trail north-west above the Myagadi Khola that crosses the Dhaulagiri Himal to the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve en-route to Dolpo. It climbs ridges linking villages with terraced rice paddies and wheat fields. Forests of bamboo, oak and rhododendron are rich in bird life. Beyond Sibang the trail turns north and steadily gains altitude, getting tougher beyond Dobang as it ascends to the Italian Base Camp.
A rest day assists acclimatisation before 700m is added to the altitude at Glacier camp and another 400m to the Dhaulagiri camp – and an additional acclimatisation day. Walks to high ground offer spectacular views of the surrounding ice-clad peaks. From the French Col, we explore Hidden Valley which offers superb views of the north face of Dhaulagiri.
The Dhaulagiri trekking Nepal trail then descends to Yak Kharka, beyond which it drops down to the beautiful village of Marpha on the river. This is a wealthy Thakali village with abundant farmlands and fruit orchards. The prayer wheel outside their monastery is over 1000 years old. From there, a two hour walk up the gorge leads to the capital of the Mustang region, Jomsom. A 20min. early morning trans-Himalayan flight takes you to Pokhara: to relax at your hotel or walk the shoreline of tranquil Phewa Lake; before returning to Kathmandu.
Sturdy boots, warm/waterproof clothing, a good sleeping bag, day pack camera sunscreen and hat are essential items. We offer a full camping trek to this region. Our Dhaulagiri circuit trek package includes transport, your guide, chef, local porters, meals, sturdy tent accommodation and safe drinking water.

Fly to Lake city Pokhara in the morning with Himalayan tranquility and drive to Beni. 82 KM (3-4 hrs) drive. There is possibilities of express overland drive direct to Beni via Pokhara which takes 9 – 10 hrs. It’s a scenic overland drive with fantastic view of Himalaya through the many rivers, terraced paddy field and countryside villages, finally brings you Beni. Overnight in Hotel.
Our trek begins from today. We continue trekking along the Kali Gandaki River. Head toward Myagdi khola. Cross the suspension bridges. Pass by the villages of Mangalghat, Singa and Tatopani (Hot spring) Enjoy the Hot Spa and overnight stay in the campsite.
Tonight you will camp in Dharapani 1565m, and the Dhaulagiri is no more so far. Today, our trail crosses the terraced hills, Shahashadhara village Dudh khola ratorunga village then reaches Dharapani and spend a night in the campsite.
The path goes steep up to Muri 1850 m, where the Mt. Dhaulagiri and other mountains appear clearly. From Muri, enjoy the magnifiscent views of Mt Dhaulagiri and others. Overnight stay in Campsite.
From Muri the trail is easy and goes down for few hours but before to reach Boghara you have to climb a steep path for a couple of hours. The trail descends down before reaching Phedi and then the trail ascends up until Boghara. Overnight stay in Campsite.
Today the path is quite difficult and sometimes you will need the help of the ropes. The trail descends down to a small ridge then crosses forest to Jyardan. Finally, cross the rocky part to arrive at Doban. Overnight stay in Campsite.
Today you will reach the Italian Base Camp where you will camp just in front of the West wall of the Dhaulagiri. Passing through beautiful forest we rapidly gain altitude and mountains burst out all around. Since, we are rapidly gaining altitude, keep yourself hydrated and take it easy. Overnight stay in campsite.
A rest day for acclimatization. Since there is little exploring to be had, this is a day to relax because tomorrow we will have a tough day. Exercise, move around, make some hikings and properly acclimatize with the altitude.
After crossing the first glacier, probably using a rope in a couple of tricky spots, we climb onto the main glacier. The surroundings are spectacular, which makes up for the rough and dangerous trail. The glacier crossing would require the use of rope. Overnight stay in campsite.
Today we reach the Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Soon the rough rubble gives way to the smooth ice of the white part of the glacier. We climb steadily to the rough and chilling but spectacular Dhaulagiri Base Camp. On the way, enjoy the magnificent north face of Dhaulagiri I. Overnight at campsite
We will be constantly at an altitude of 5000 - 60000 m in the next days, hence so this day is essential. Even when we're acclimatizing, health experts recommend us to stay active and moving during the rest day too instead of being idle. Overnight stay in campsite.
Hidden Valley Getting off the glacier above the base camp often requires a rope, but once over the steep moraine walls we are in safer and gentler country. After a breathless climb to the top of French Col.
Make some rest. Acclimatize. Explore the surrounding peaks.
After climbing over the 5200m Dhampus Pass, we traverse avalanche prone slopes and then descends steeply to Yak Kharka. Then trail descends down until we reach at Yak kharka.
More steep descent leads to Marpha and a well-deserved beer over lunch. Tackling along the cairns, we proceed along the snowy path. After a few hours of walking in the snow, we pass the top of the Thapa Pass. From Marpha, we further head toward Jomsom to catch our next day's flight to Pokhara.
After morning breakfast we check in the airport to fly back to Pokhara, a 30-min dramatic flight to Pokhara between gorge of the two huge mountains, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. On arrival at Pokhara airport, guide will transfer to the lakeside hotel. We make use of the rest afternoon for discovering the beautiful Pokhara valley leisurely. While we walk along the bank of Phewa Lake, the second biggest lake of Nepal enjoying the Fish Tail Mountain reflected in the lake. You can also take a boat around the Phewa Lake or just can take an hour's walk to the World Peace Pagoda. Evening time, we spend exploring around the lakeside.
Today, after breakfast, we make a 200 kilometers drive back to Kathmandu. Better to hold on the left pane of the vehicle to enjoy the scenery through the route. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. You can spend the evening leisurely, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping and celebrate dinner together with Himalayan Glacier Trekking staffs.

Breathtaking Views of Dhaulagiri & Annapurna: Panoramic Himalayan scenery with iconic snow-capped peaks.
Remote Trekking Routes: Off-the-beaten-path trails through pristine forests, rivers, and suspension bridges.
Authentic Village Culture: Experience Gurung and Magar villages, traditional lifestyles, and local hospitality.
High Mountain Pass Adventure: Cross challenging passes and alpine meadows for an unforgettable trekking experience.
Moderate to Challenging Trek: Daily hikes of 5–7 hours suitable for fit adventure travelers.
Best Seasons for Trekking: Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) for clear skies and ideal weather.
