During the Poon Hill Trek in Nepal, electricity and battery charging facilities are available in most villages along the trail, but access can be limited in higher-altitude locations. Although this trek is lower in altitude than high Himalayan routes, proper power management is still important for capturing stunning sunrises, panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, and documenting your cultural experiences in Gurung villages.
Electricity access depends on altitude, village size, and available infrastructure:
Lower Section (Nayapul, Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani)
✔️ Most teahouses have hydroelectric or small solar-powered systems
✔️ Charging services are generally available
✔️ Power may not be constant throughout the day
Upper Section (Tadapani, Ghandruk)
✔️ Mostly solar-powered electricity
✔️ Charging may be limited to evenings
✔️ Availability can vary with weather conditions
Poon Hill & High Viewpoints
❌ No electricity at the Poon Hill summit or along exposed trails
❌ Charging not possible while trekking to viewpoints
Charging fees increase slightly with remoteness:
Approximate Costs:
Nayapul / Tikhedhunga: USD 1–2 per device
Ghorepani: USD 2–3
Tadapani / Ghandruk: USD 2–3
Separate charges may apply for:
✔️ Mobile phones
✔️ Cameras
✔️ Power banks
✔️ GPS devices
💡 Tip: Carry small Nepali currency (NPR) for payments, as higher-altitude teahouses may not accept cards.
While Poon Hill Trek is more accessible than remote regions, connectivity is still limited in some areas:
✔️ Mobile network is generally available in Ghorepani and Ghandruk
✔️ Weak or no signal along steep trails and viewpoints
✔️ Wi-Fi may be available in selected teahouses (slow and intermittent)
💡 Advice: Use local SIM cards (NTC or Ncell preferred) for better coverage, but don’t rely on network access at high viewpoints like Poon Hill.
To avoid running out of battery during trekking and sunrise hikes:
✔️ Carry a high-capacity power bank (10,000–20,000mAh recommended)
✔️ Bring spare camera or drone batteries
✔️ Use a small solar charger for backup
✔️ Switch devices to airplane mode when not in use
✔️ Reduce screen brightness and turn off unnecessary apps
✔️ Keep electronics insulated in sleeping bags at night to prevent cold drainage
Cold mornings and evenings can reduce battery performance, especially at higher elevations like Ghorepani and Poon Hill.
The Poon Hill Trek is known for:
Spectacular sunrise and sunset views over Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli
Lush rhododendron forests and terraced landscapes
Traditional Gurung villages with local culture and homestays
Moderate-altitude trekking with limited infrastructure at higher viewpoints
Planning ahead ensures your devices stay charged so you can capture every scenic moment and stay connected when needed.
Electricity on the Poon Hill Trek is generally available in teahouses but limited at high viewpoints. With proper preparation, backup batteries, and smart device management, you can fully enjoy the trek without worrying about power.

Mountain Mart Trek is recommended by my Hong Kong friends, they told me that MMT is a good agency, could try. Finally, my friends and I joined MMT's private trekking tour to Poon Hill in Feb 2013. After this trip, we will not use "good" to mention MMT, because MMT is an EXECELLENT agency. Their service is much higher than "good" level. We have already been a few countries in asia, but the tour provided by MMT is the best one!!!
Although their service is excellent, their price is reasonable. When I asked Dolakh (travel consultant of MMT) to help arrange my tour, he isn't like other agencies to just provide standard trekking itinerary. When he knew we weren't strong, modified the tour to be 5 days trekking instead of 4 days with other useful advices to suit our needs. His travel agency is what I need !! We enjoyed the trekking so much, the scenery was very nice and also much appriecate the services of the guide Shiva and the porter Sujan.
The guide told us a lot about the Nepal culture, provided the lodges with panorama view of Annapurna and fish tail (some lodges don't have the views). He looked after us well and always prepared all before telling him. The porter Sujan not only did his job - carrying the backpack, but also looked after us too. He tried his best to not let us slip on the ice trail. Also, we like this service provided from them - the guide always walked little bit in front of us and porter always walked little bit behind us to avoid we got lost in the mountain. We really thanks to Dolakh, Shiva and Sujan to give us a Wonderful trip in Nepal, we HIGHLY recommend MMT to be your agency.

Poon Hill Short trek in 4 days from Phokara
We had a wonderful experience on this trek with Ram Bhandari. Ram is a very kind person and he took care of us while those 4 days. He was able to give us a lot of information about the Nepalese mountains and his country in general and knew also how to give us space and privacy. We also enjoyed the company of Raoul our porter and formed all together an harmonious group. We highly recommend Mountain Mart and also Ram if you get the possibility to choose the guide.

Amazing Annapurna Trek to Poon Hill with Mountain Mart!!
Review of: Annapurna Panorama trek
We have just completed a 4 day trek in the glorious Annapurna region with Mountain Mart. They put together a wonderful package, picking us up from our hotel in Pokhara, the driving us to the start of our trek.
Day 1 trekking is straight up for several hours with a break for lunch.
Day 2 more up and overnight at Ghorepani.
Day 3 early rise for our pre dawn trek up to Poon Hill with AMAZING sunrise of the Himalayas - two 8,000m + mountains!!!
Day 4 quieter day leading to the end of our trek in Tadapani.
Our guide Nabin and porters Dilip & Wudra were awesome, pacing the trek to our needs. Food was great and accommodation surprisingly high standard.
Everything ran like clockwork - would highly recommend Mountain Mart and this glorious trek

Poon Hill Trekking Tour
We did the 4 day Poon Hill Sunrise trek with Ram and Rupesh as guide and porter. It was an amazing experience, walking through the mountain forrests and passing all the small villages that are mostly inaccessible by car. On the third and fourth day, we rose early to see the sunrise over the Annapurna mountain range, crazy beautiful! Our guide, Ram, really did his best to ensure we had the best experience and showed us the beauty of life in the mountains. Accommodation and food were very good, I recommend sticking to the local meals to get the full experience!
Pro tip: bring a pack of cards to play during the evening, even the locals can join!

Amazing 5 day Poon Hill Trek
My partner and I did the 5 day Poon Hill trek. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Nepal before and the second trip with Mountain Mart did not disappoint. We were there in September, so still a little rainy, but the views we’re still incredible. So much vibrant greenery throughout the forests and the most beautiful waterfalls too. We saw a small peak of the mountains at the top of Poon Hill too.
Our guide was Yukumar, who was so helpful and supportive during our time away. The whole trip was so well planned - if we needed a pick-me-up or any breaks to soak in the views, then Yukumar made sure we were able to. It felt really bespoke and we were very well looked after.
We’ll be back to Nepal for sure and wouldn’t hesitate to book another trek with Mountain Mart & Yukumar.
Thank you!!

I had never done a trek before, and the decision to do the Poon Hill Trek was a brilliant one. The thing that made it special was our wonderful, knowledgeable and patient guide Gokarna. Our guide helped us every step of the way, and provided us with so much incredible information about the mountains and the culture.
The trek itself was very special, there was lots of gentle uphill, some not so gentle uphills, some beautiful rolling track and some downhill. All of it was just beautiful.
The highlights of the trip were seeing the sunrise over the mountains from the top of Poon Hill (Gokarna kindly volunteered to take many photos of my partner and I which we will cherish), spotting Langur monkeys (which Gorkana pointed out to us), leaning Nepalese card games at night in the lodges, and also challenging myself to do a hike I didn’t know if I was capable of.
The hike was beautiful but it was our guide Gokarna that made the experience truly magical.
The Poon Hill trek was a great experience. Our guide was amazing and very informative. He made the experience really Memorable and would highly recommend. The sights and experience of the trek was beautiful.

Our tour was perfectly planned from front to back. We are not experienced hikers ourselves, but the route to Poonhill does not require any special fitness. Every effort is rewarded with a great view over the western Himalayan mountains, which increases from destination to destination.
Overnight stays are in simple but very cozy accommodations, where you can meet many like-minded people, or just relax from the day. Our meals were always well taken care of.
A very special thanks goes to our guide Ram Bhandari who made our trip very special. At all times our needs were put first and we always felt well taken care of. We got all the info about nature, culture and surroundings and could always blindly rely on him to decide everything to our best. You can only wish for such a 5-star service.
Huge thanks also goes to our great porter Anil Thapa, who has perfectly taken care of our luggage and has also always best support where it was needed.

I had a great experience with Mountain Mart - they were very clear on the service provided, what was included/not included in the package and the guide Yukumar was very helpful, kind and made sure everything happened smoothly during the trek. He also shared a lot of his knowledge about Nepali culture and the region we visited. Thank you so much, I really recommend and would hire Mountain Mart again!

We've just completed the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek over a course of 4 days and the experience is nothing short of amazing!
Starting from Kathmandu where we reported in to head office , Dolakh is very helpful and patient in briefing us as to what to expect and also our itinerary.
When we eventually reach Pokhara, we were greeted by the ever friendly Ram and Dilip, our guide and porter respectively which were heaven sent! Tracking the hills over a course of several days were easy and fun filled with the dynamic duo. They Always made sure we were all right , slowly explained to us our surroundings and all our queries and always followed our pace , especially during the last day when our legs were swollen as hell from all the walking!
They also always made sure our well being was taken care of. Our meals , accommodations, water supply and bags (including hand carries) were very thoughtfully handled. Accommodations in particular for the few nights were always having the best possible rooms with the best possible views overlooking the beautiful Annapurna mountains. Being with them these past few days have taught us a lot not only on hiking in Annapurna region , but also the culture of Nepal. We had great and fun conversations, sang songs together and journeyed together very much like close friends whom have known each other for years
I strongly recommend MountainMart trekking company with Ram and Dilip if you're looking to hike in Nepal. You'll be very well greeted with the warmest possible hospitality and will feel like you're at home. They are truly the living Nepal culture of "come as a guest, go as a friend".

Patan Durbar square: The excursion then accelerates towards Patan, the city of festival, feast, art and culture. The city is prominent place to visit due to ancient Patan Durbar square, Krishna Mandir, Ganesh mandir and many more temples and places. We inspect art, history, cultural importance and architectural craftsmanship of the city. Boudhanath: Boudhanath is next destination of city tour which lies at northeast of Kathmandu. The stupa here is one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and is mostly visited by the Buddhist and Hindus pilgrims throughout the year. The aesthetic monks, prayer hymn, rolling Mani Wheels, and effused incense stick have made the vibrant ambiance in this area. Pashupatinath: Another most exciting place to visit in Kathmandu is Pashupatinath temple, the oldest temple in Nepal. This temple of lord Shiva is one of the sacred temples of Hindus living in every nook and corner. Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter inside the premises of the temple; however, one can capture the photos of the traditional cremation ceremony and temple from the opposite bank of the holy Bagmati River. After visiting the main UNESCO heritage sites, the guides then take you back to your own hotel. Get refreshed and prepare gears or luggage for the next day trek.
After enjoying delicate breakfast at hotel, we fly from Tribhuwan International airport (Kathmandu) to Pokhara: the city of lakes. In the evening, the guides provide briefing about the trek. Tonight, stay at Pokhara.
After delightful breakfast at hotel, we drive from Pokhara to Nayapul in a private jeep/van. The drive today will be exhausted or monotonous to some trekkers due to bumpy drive; but the scenic scenery of green rolling hills, dense forest, rivers and pleasant environment fuel the happiness and excitement during ½ hour of drive. Eventually from Nayapul, we begin our trek on foot to Tikhedhunga and finally to Ulleri. Overnight, stay at Ulleri.
Today’s trek is easy, short and comfortable. From Ulleri, we ascend to a view point from where we can witness sparkling Annapurna South and Hiunchuli at distance. Further, we ascend through dense Oak and rhododendron forest and trace small villages Banthati, Nangethati then finally reach at the Ghorepani after taking right turn above lower Ghorapani. Overnight, stay at Ghorepani.
In the early morning, we hike through dense forest to the magnificent view-point: Poon Hill. The wide hill top is perfect place for stupendous sunrise view over Annapurna and other snow clad peaks including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna fang, Annapurna south, Hiunchuli, Dhampus peak. After 6-7 hours of drive, we reach at Kathmandu in daytime. Transfer to the hotel, be fresh, take some rest and explore Kathmandu in the evening time.
After delicate breakfast, check out your room and head to Tribhuwan International airport for departure flight. Final say: Poon Hill trek is short, easy and safe trek which offers the bewitching view of snow-clad mountains along with the serene scenery. But if you prefer trekking in off season summer and winter, it could ruin your dream of perceiving the appealing scenery; therefore, we suggest you to trek in spring and autumn seasons. The climate in the higher elevation is unpredictable: some time the sky looks crystal whereas it remains misty and foggy within few minutes. If you want to enjoy the scenic view from Poon Hill then you might need to add few more buffer days in your schedule. Trekking to the Poon Hill is easy and don’t demand technical skill, physical training or other gears; but it is always the better idea to possess the genuine gears and have prior physical training.

Planning the Poon Hill Trek in Nepal requires careful preparation, reliable travel insurance, and access to proper emergency support. This short yet iconic trek in the Annapurna region offers spectacular Himalayan panoramas, including Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. Although it is lower in altitude than high Himalayan treks, reaching elevations of 3,210m at Poon Hill, trekkers still benefit from having proper travel insurance and emergency coverage for a safe and stress-free experience.
Before starting your trek from Pokhara or Nayapul, ensure your travel insurance policy covers trekking up to 4,000 meters. Comprehensive insurance provides peace of mind for both medical and logistical emergencies.
Your insurance should include:
✔️ High-altitude trekking coverage (up to 4,000m)
✔️ Emergency helicopter rescue & evacuation (optional but recommended)
✔️ Medical treatment & hospitalization
✔️ Trip cancellation or interruption
✔️ Accidental injury & repatriation
✔️ Lost, stolen, or delayed baggage
Important Cost Information:
Helicopter evacuation from remote Annapurna villages can cost USD 2,000–4,000, depending on location, altitude, and weather. Valid insurance ensures coverage without upfront payments during emergencies.
The Poon Hill Trek is less remote than high Himalayan treks but still requires preparation for unexpected emergencies. Villages along the trail, such as Ghorepani, Tadapani, and Ulleri, have basic medical facilities.
Rescue Procedure During Emergencies:
1️⃣ Inform your trekking guide immediately.
2️⃣ The trekking agency contacts local rescue operators and your insurance provider.
3️⃣ Helicopter evacuation is arranged from the nearest landing site if necessary.
4️⃣ Transfer to a hospital in Pokhara for further treatment.
Nepal operates professional helicopter rescue services across the Annapurna region, weather permitting, ensuring rapid emergency response.
Even though Poon Hill is considered a moderate trek, proper insurance provides:
✔️ Coverage for minor injuries, altitude sickness, or sudden illness
✔️ Financial protection during medical emergencies or helicopter evacuations
✔️ Peace of mind for solo trekkers, families, and first-time trekkers
✔️ Support in case of trip delays, cancellations, or lost baggage
Trekking in the Annapurna region requires the following permits:
1️⃣ Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) – Mandatory for all foreign trekkers.
2️⃣ TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System) – Helps track trekkers and ensures safety.
Permit Tips:
✔️ Obtain permits through a registered trekking agency for smooth processing
✔️ Carry both original and digital copies during the trek
✔️ Present permits at checkpoints like Nayapul, Ghorepani, and Tadapani
✔️ Carry printed and digital copies of your insurance policy
✔️ Ensure altitude coverage up to 4,000m
✔️ Share insurance details with your trekking agency before departure
✔️ Hire experienced, licensed trekking guides
✔️ Walk at a steady pace and stay hydrated
✔️ Monitor signs of altitude sickness (rare but possible in sensitive trekkers)
✔️ Check weather forecasts before trekking, especially during monsoon or winter
The Poon Hill Trek offers stunning Himalayan sunrises, panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, charming Gurung villages, and lush rhododendron forests. It is ideal for short, rewarding trekking experiences with moderate difficulty.
Even on this lower-altitude trek, proper travel insurance, emergency rescue coverage, and professional guide support ensure a safe, organized, and enjoyable adventure.
With preparation, reliable insurance, and expert guidance, trekkers can confidently explore the Annapurna foothills and create unforgettable Himalayan memories.
Travel safe, stay insured, and enjoy the breathtaking Poon Hill Trek experience!
Travel prepared, carry spare power, and trek with experienced guides who understand the trail. This ensures a smooth, safe, and unforgettable Poon Hill Trek experience, from sunrise at Poon Hill to cultural immersion in Gurung villages.

Recommended Tipping Guidelines:
Guide: USD 8–12 per day (per group)
Porter: USD 5–8 per day
💡 Tip: Adjust tipping based on service quality and group size.
The Poon Hill Trek is moderately priced compared to higher Himalayan treks.
Recommended daily budget: USD 15–25 per person
Budget slightly higher if you:
Consume alcohol frequently
Use Wi-Fi regularly
Take daily hot showers
Charge multiple electronic devices
💡 Note: There are limited ATMs along the trekking route, so carry sufficient Nepali cash.
✔️ Carry enough cash for the entire trek
✔️ Prices increase slightly at higher villages like Ghorepani and Tadapani
