Food Cost to Everest Base Camp Trek 2020

A healthy and balanced food intake is a must for the trekkers in the Himalayas. Prepare yourself physically and mentally prior to jumping into the twist and turns of trail. Don’t worry as tea houses  all along the route of Everest base camp trek has plenty of items on their menus  from authentic  Nepali Daal-Bhat , Mountain Sherpa’s  warm  cuisine to Chinese and Continentals. During the trek, you get  three meals a day. Breakfast, lunch and  Dinner. Breakfast is a boaster for the day.It feeds you with essential energy for the trek.

Breakfast - Food Cost to Everest Base Camp Trek

Serving Time: 6am-7 am Cost range: $10-15 Menus at breakfast:

  • Toast ( Plain, Cheese, Jam,honey, French)
  • Eggs  (Fried, Boiled, Scrambled ) or Omelets(Plain, Cheese, veg)
  • Potatoes
  • Chapati (plain or with honey, butter, jam)
  • Porridge (oats, apple, )
  • Pancake(Chocolate, Egg, Apple,Lemon)

With breakfast of chilly morning, warm yourself with a cup of tea or hot lemon too. Hot water with ginger or salt also taste good. Avoid caffeine as much as possible along with alcohol. During trekking,it is best to eat energy giving foods or carbohydrates. At lunch, savor the Nepalese favorite and most consumed food Dal-Bhat, Achar, Tarkari (rice,lentils, pickle and vegetable). Every tea houses offers a delightful Daal-Bhat. Sherpa stew is a popular soup in the mountain tea houses with veges flavors. And if you want chinese or continental, then you do have options to chose from rice or whole grains at lunch menus.

Lunch

Serving time: 12 noon-1 pm Cost  range: $10-12 Menus at Lunch:

  • Daal-Bhat(Veg, Non-Veg)
  • Fried rice (Veg, egg, tuna, Cheese, mixed)
  • Fried Noodles(Veg, Egg, cheese, mixed)
  • MoMo/ Dumplings (Potato, buff, chicken,cheese,veg)
  • Pasta (veg, cheese)
  • Macaroni
  • Pizza(chicken, mushroom, mixed)
  • Sandwich
  • Spaghetti
  • Soup(Mushroom, Tomato, Sherpa Stew, garlic,tomato)

Dinner is served at the tea houses, you stay overnight at. Lunch menus are similar to dinner but cost might differs due to location. The cost of food and drinks gets higher with the altitude.

Dinner

Serving time: 6pm-7pm Cost range:  $14-18 Menus at dinner:

  • Daal-Bhat(Veg, Non-Veg)
  • Fried rice (Veg, egg, tuna, Cheese, mixed)
  • Pizza(chicken, mushroom, mixed)
  • Sandwich
  • Spaghetti
  • Soup(Mushroom, Tomato, Sherpa Stew, garlic,tomato)

  • MoMo/ Dumplings (Potato, buff, chicken,cheese,veg)
  • Pasta (veg, cheese)

The Everest region is most inhabited by Sherpas and the prominent religion is Buddhism. Consequently, the region is butchering free. Meat are supplied from lower section of Lukla without freezing in a open basket. Hence, vegetarian food with egg and cheese are more healthier to eat. Drinking taps can be found on the trail but they might not be safer to drink. Carry chlorine tablets or ask at tea houses you stop for lunch and dinner to boil water for you. But tea houses can charge some money for boiling water while Mountain Mart Treks provide chlorine treated safe drinking water to its clients along with systematic itinerary adventures.
