Amazing trip by an amazing guide

We had an Amazing trip with a brilliant guide ‘Yukumar ‘ who looked after us impeccably.
We are a family of five and Kumar made sure everyone was happy all of the time especially making sure our comfort was seen to from dining to accommodation and he was very knowledgeable on Nepalese culture.

It’s by far our best trip yet and our kids loved it and we also want to say a big thank you to the owner Dollak who was very helpful with all the arrangements when organizing everything that was required to achieve a great trip.

Thanks again to Mountain Mart and especially Yukumar.

Excellent experience

We went on Mountain Mart’s Annapurna Panorama trek and added on two nights in Chitwan National Park. Bottom line - the trip was spectacular – everything we could have hoped for. Dolakh was very responsive to our requests and our needs in the planning process. When we arrived at the Everest Boutique Hotel (which is owned by Dolakh/Mountain Mart) we were pleasantly surprised. We expected more “Nepalese” accommodations, but found a newly built, clean, and well-appointed room. The day tour around Kathmandu was informative and allowed us learn about Nepalese religious traditions. The next morning, we opted to take a flight to Pokhara (more on this decision later) for the next leg of the journey. As soon as we got above the clouds, we were treated to our first view of the Himalayas, readying us for more to come. The Lakeside Retreat Resort was clean and comfortable, with an excellent breakfast. With our guide, Ram, we took a long stroll around Pokhara lakeside. Ram prepared us for the trek, answering all of our questions about what to expect. We also started to get to know Ram and learn more about him and his family, as well as Nepalese culture and customs. Unequivocally, Ram was an excellent guide and host throughout our entire journey.

The next morning, we left early for our trek. We chose this 6-day trek for the anticipated views and because it stayed below 10,600 feet (we know we don’t do well at higher elevations). While the daily mileage was shorter than what we had previously done (4 – 11 miles daily), the climbs were challenging. Let me emphasize that – several days had over 3000 feet of elevation gain – and what we didn’t anticipate was how much of it was on steps. We definitely struggled, particularly as our elevation increased. Ram quickly learned about our strengths and weaknesses as hikers. He encouraged us throughout and never pushed us beyond our capabilities. One day, he adjusted our route to take us around a mountain peak rather than over it, knowing that we didn’t mind the extra mileage. It’s worth noting that our feeling of accomplishment is one of the memories we will cherish from this trip.

Thakur, our sherpa, was always ready with a smile on his face and had a few simple English words in his vocabulary. He was consistently ready on time, always the last in our small group to make sure we didn't stray off the trail, and impressed us daily on how he easily maneuvered the same trek but with 40+ lbs of supplies on his back.

Two highlights for us were the sunrise from Poon Hill (of course) and our visit to the village of Ghandruk. The teahouses were a mixed bag, as expected. We always had a private bathroom (with western toilets), wifi (although it was slow and intermittent), and plugs for charging. Not all had hot water. We didn’t realize that the trekking route took us past many small villages, so we were never far from a water resupply or a toilet (although these were mostly eastern style “squatters”).

After the trek, we spent another night in the same hotel in Pokhara and then got a private driver to take us over the awful roads to Chitwan. At the Rainforest Hotel, we were met by our guide Raj. In the next day and a half, Raj took us into the park 4 times, for two hikes, a dugout canoe ride, and a jeep safari. We did not want to take the elephant ride. Raj is an outstanding naturalist – he knows about the flora and fauna and has an uncanny ability to spot wildlife. We saw several rhinos, both in the water and on land, crocodiles, several types of deer, and dozens of interesting birds. On one hike, we saw fresh Bengal tiger footprints, but didn’t see the tiger itself.

We got a private vehicle back to Kathmandu, where we stayed for one more night at the Everest Boutique Hotel, before taking a late night flight back home.
Our one criticism is something that was out of Mountain Mart’s control, but we do wish we had known in advance. The roads connecting Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan are awful – long unpaved sections and construction delays, as well as a free-for-all when there is congestion. Journeys of less than 100 miles can take over 6 hours. The trip included transfers on the “tourist” bus, but this would have taken even longer. On the morning we transferred to Pokhara, Dolakh advised us to fly, as the rains made the roads nearly impassable. We also opted for 6-hour private car service on the next two legs, rather than an 8-9 hour tourist bus. These were our choices and overall ground costs of the trip were otherwise reasonable, so we felt we could afford this. But overall, it did add an additional $450 expense that we didn’t anticipate.

Family Trek - Everest View Trek with Kumar

Our trip to Nepal for my 50th birthday was the best family trip we have ever had. It was out of our comfort zone taking the family (kids aged 16, 14 and 11) on more intrepid travelling compared to our other holidays where we have gone to beaches or resorts where we park up and relax. A lot more time and effort went into the planning.

Most important to me was the trek (we only had 6 days and I really wanted to go to the Everest region so we booked the Everest View trek up to Tengboche and back) It was so overwhelming looking at all the companies. I decided to ask a travel agent, and in the meantime I got to looking at where we could stay on arrival into Kathmandu. Everest Boutique Hotel stood out with amazing reviews and we liked the location, so booked it. From then on everything else fell into place - in our confirmation booking it made mention they also ran a trekking company Mountain Mart. So I made enquiries and Dolakh was fantastic to deal with, quickly responding to my many questions and made me feel at ease.

At the same time the travel agent came back to me with a few different trekking company options - comparing them made the decision to go with Mountain Mart easy, and I'd defintely recommend booking directly with a company over going via a travel agent in this case.

We met our wonderful guide Kumar (Yokumar) the night before we left, and they ran over packing, the itinerary, and what to expect. We were given our duffel bags, sleeping bags and poles, packed what we needed into the duffels and stored out suitcases etc at the hotel. (I should add - Everest Boutique is absolutely gorgeous, and far surpassed our expectations, the rooms were huge and beds and linen were lovely, it's very handy to all the Thamel shops but just out of the way enough to be quiet, we slept so well there).

Meeting Kumar really consolidated our great choice, he's an absolute ray of sunshine and we were so pleased to be spending the next 6 days with him. Kumar was also great with the kids including the teenagers and has an awesome sense of humour.

Up bright and early the next morning, we were off to the airport to catch our flight to Lukla! The weather looked ok to us, and we were super excited. Checked in and boarding passes in our hands for a 7:30am flight - 7 hours later all flights cancelled for the rest of the day due to weather, and we were left with a decision to make. Change plans and head to Pokhara for a trek in Annapurna region, or try out luck for another go tomorrow (but weather looked like it would go either way). I have wanted to go to the Everest region since I was young, and we had spent a huge amount to get there and do it, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Kumar observed this, seeing how much it meant to me. He suggested instead that we drive that day to Ramechhap to give us our best chance of getting into Lukla that next morning. He arranged the driver and quickly diverted all plans, booking us somewhere to stay near Ramechhap that night. The kids were getting great exposure to real travelling, sleeping on airport floors and a 5 hour car ride diversion. Kumar was so calm, he arranged everything, and amazingly the next morning (after a couple of nailbiting hours) we landed into Lukla. I cried with relief of getting there, the trek was finally underway.

The next 5 days were incredible, and better than I had even hoped for. Kumar has been a guide for years and seemed to know everyone on the route. And somehow he always got us the best rooms in the tea houses we stayed in, with great views. He arranged everything, and I found it a real mental holiday. Normally when we go away I spend so much time researching where to eat and what to do while we are there. With the trek the only decisions to be made were what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Days went like this: Breakfast around 7ish, and head off by 8. Walk the through the most stunning scenery and gorgeous wee villages until lunchtime. Order and eat lunch and get a few games of cards in, then head off again. Arrive into destination around 3 or 4pm, get changed into comfy clothes, pre-order our dinner, play cards and chat with other trekkers from around the world. If you are wanting quality family time, go for a trek in Nepal.

So - highly recommend Mountain Mart Treks, and if you can ask for Kumar as he is amazing :-)

An Excellent Tour Agency

My girlfriend and I embarked on a 12-14 day independent journey to the Everest Base Camp, without booking through an agency. Along the way, we had the pleasure of meeting Bishal, a guide from the Mountain Mart Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. agency. Although we hadn't officially hired his services and it wasn't his duty, he went above and beyond to assist us in various ways, always ensuring that we had a wonderful experience. It was evident that he carried out his work with passion and a genuine desire to share the beauty of his country with tourists. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Bishal and wish him all the best.

We wholeheartedly recommend anyone considering such a tour to choose this agency, and especially Bishal as your tour guide.

Great Experience, Great company and great Guide and Porter

Just got back from doing the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter return. Highly recommend to anyone, it was amazing. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide (Lochan) and Porter (Dawa) They were so amazing, and took such good care of my wife and I. Unfortunately my wife got altitude sickness the night before base camp. Lochan and Dawa were so very helpful and caring in helping her and making sure she was ok. They were also very flexible with the plans and with the help of Dolakh we were able to take our helicopter return a day earlier.

Would very highly recommend that anyone thinking of doing the trek with Mountain Mart Treks, do it, they were great! Would also recommend to ask for Lochan as your guide! Very knowledgeable and caring!

Annapurna Base Camp 5 Day Trek

After researching many trekking companies for our ABC trip, we landed on Mountain Mart. My husband and I did the ABC 5 day trek starting from Kathmandu and ending in Pokhara. We booked directly through their website, and the process was smooth and easy.

This is a moderate-to-hard trek that requires some prior hiking experience and a decent fitness level. Thanks to Dholak Thapa for the seamless booking and itinerary planning, making this a memorable trip. Our trekking guide (Bhoj Tamang) and porters (Nabin and Ganesh) went above and beyond, ensuring that we were well-fed and rested on all days.
We started and ended all our days on time. The tea house accommodations arranged were really comfortable. Bhoj proactively gave us all the info on what to expect each day. Beyond being a great guide, he is a genuinely good person. The little things really mattered to me - for example, I had to slow down on day 4 due to a bad knee and he stayed at the back of the group with me, offering a helping hand at the tricky parts. Nabin and Ganesh carried our luggage safely, and their happy-go-lucky nature was fun to be around!

Accomodations in Pokhara on the last day were good too. Not having to carry our own equipment (poles, sleeping bags etc.) was a plus.

Finally, a shout-out to Everest Boutique Hotel where we stayed for a day after the trek. This is a truly unique hotel with its authentic Nepali architecture. The high quality rooms and rooftop lounge were really welcoming after all the hard work we had put in!

Highly recommend Mountain Mart for your Nepal trekking adventures!

Three Passes Trek - amazing experience!

We (a group of 2) completed the Three Passes Trek in October 2023 independently without guide or agency.

During the trek we met Bishal (a guide from Mountain Mart Treks) became friends and we hiked together with him and his client for a couple of days. His advise and knowledge during these few days proofed to be invaluable and ensured we had the most memorable trip as we continued on!

From acclimatisation/ high altitude advise ("Walk slow and steady and conserve your energy!") and ensuring we were able to get good rooms in packed tea houses to insights on paths less travelled he went above and beyond despite us not being clients.

If you are planning a hike in the Khumbu region and are looking for a guide, I would definitely recommend to contact Mountain Mart Treks and ask for Bishal's availability!

He is very knowledgeable and the most humble and genuine person - thanks for all your help and many smiles and laughs Bishal!

Gokyo Lakes and Renjo La Pass Trek

Just returned from the gokyo lake and renjo La pass trek with mountain mart. Firstly a big thank you to my guide and porter Devvi - he was very professional, friendly and caring from start to finish of the trek service. Every detail was thought out and he always made sure I was comfortable and felt safe. I highly recommend him for your trek in Nepal! - he is strong, knowledgeable, and consistently considerate. His English is great! I was never left behind during the hiking and my he always ensured I kept my own pace with no rushing or pressure.

With mountain mart you get a really top notch service - teahouses were always on the upper hand with good beds, clean hygienic rooms and fantastic views !! I always felt that I had the superior tea houses and services. This makes a big difference in the remote areas after tough trekking !

Secondly the trip includes Everest boutique hotel accommodation before and after your trek in the most exquisite authentic Nepalese hotel with warm hospitality and an awesome rooftop. I have returned 2 times now to the Everest boutique hotel and have plans to come back again in 2024 - the only hotel to consider for your stay in Kathmandu.

Annapurna Base Camp trek.

I didn’t realise at the time that I’d fallen on my feet! I booked accommodation in Kathmandu with the intent on finding a local guide/trek, only to realise that the owner of the hotel had a trekking business. Within a short while of talking with Dolakh Thapa I secured a 6 day trek to the Annapurna Base Camp. To the positive I was asked various questions on the clothing/equipment I had and naturally I came prepared. However, it dawned on me whilst on the trek of the professionalism of Mountain Mart Treks & Expedition compared to others, as others on guided treks were not dressed appropriately which would be detrimental to their enjoyment e.g. wearing Vans to walk in the snow!…Dolakh runs a trekking business that I consider to be Top Notch! 👍

Furthermore, I had an exceptional guide from start to end with Ram Bhandari. Exceptional knowledge of the Annapurna circuit, always mindful of my welfare as in appropriately hydrated and fuelled with the typical Tea House culinary delights. Ram also has a very nice personal touch in the manner he would present a drink and wipe the cutlery with a tissue prior to presenting to me. All in all, Ram is exceptional and I’d endorse him as your trekking guide 👌

Trekking with Ram Bhandari

We were planing to go to Nepal in March. Ram which was the best trekking guide of the trek. He’s nice, warm and patient. He take good care of us. He thought us everything about Nepali culture and answered all the questions we had. He also knew every peak and he always kept us in good mood. He knew all the best lodges in the mountains and whenever it was possible he provided us with a good bedroom and bathroom. Every day after dinner we also got fruit from Ram (which he carried for us up to the mountains) and which other guests didn't have. He was really there for us from beginning till the end. We also need to mention our porter Susan who was really strong and kind, and carried all our stuff to the mountains. We would really recommend Ram to guide you in your trek in Nepal.

Bhoj and Harka were the best team you could hope for. Bhoj was attentive to all our needs and was always in control of the whole operation, planning ahead… proving he knows the trails, lodges and people very well. Fantastic 1 day hike with our guide Ram Bhandari. We were staying in Kathmandu only for a few days so wanted to fit a hike in. We hiked from Changunarayan temple to Nagarkot.
Fantastic views all the way and everything was organised with the company including transfer from the hotel to start point and pick up from Nagarkot. On the way back we stopped at Bhaktapur as well to see the traditional villages.
Excellent day out and will definitely recommend to anyone.

Nagarkot Day Hike with a guide

Had the most amazing tour with our wonderful guide Ram. We hiked from Changunaryan temple to Nagarkot (around 4 hours hike) and Ram was so helpful and we had a great time with him. He started as a guide and left as a friend. Highly recommend this tour - great day hike from Kathmandu and we even chose to stay in Nagarkot that night to catch the sunset and sunrise, before heading back to Kathmandu the next day via Bhaktapur. I would say you 100% need a guide for this hike or it is easy to get lost.

Really recommend this tour company and would tell anyone to choose Ram as your guide for any trek big or small. He gave us plenty of other hike recommendations in Nepal too! We’ll be coming back next year for a bigger trek!

Family Bonding for busy people ask for Ram; if you want the best

Our family of four with 2 children aged 16 and 13, LOVED this trip. Breath taking and one of the very best family bonding experiences. Ram and mountain mart made our life amazing. Absolutely nothing was too much for them. Ram was on hand to help resolve any matter. Close but not invasive. We did the four day and it was enough for our fit family. Mountain mart made it simple. Having a guide made sure my wife and I enjoyed it and could focus on helping our kids with the moment of struggle that are always going to happen. Highly recommend mountain mart and if you want great look no further than Ram

Exploring Annapurna with Family and Ram

II took my family to Annapurna during spring break and my 13-year-old and 16-year-old kids had the best time. We are a busy family with both parents working and believe that taking time out for adventures is an important part of our family values. Hence, we decided to hire a guide for this trip. Our guide, Ram, was amazing from start to finish. We all leaned on Ram from time to time, and that made the experience culturally rich. Not only did we spend time in an amazing environment, but we also learned so much about Nepal, the people, the mountains, and what makes it so special. Although the trek was our most challenging one so far, our family got through it, and we all had tough times at some point. I highly recommend spending time like this with family, and if you want the best from your time, take a guide. If you are considering a guide, you can't go past Ram. Namaste, Ram.

Excellent guide and excellent logistics

My trip was organized by Mountain Mart and I stayed in in the Everest Boutique Hotel in Kathmandu, which is an excellent hotel with good food and modern clean bathrooms.
From there we had a track towards Everest Base Camp. All logistics where organized perfectly. A helicopter was arranged for us when the flight towards Lukla was canceled. Flights towards Lukla frequently get canceled because of bad weather as the runway in Lukla is short but the heli will almost always fly. The cost for the heli are around 500$ per person. All logistics where organized perfectly by Mr Dolakh (manager of the Everest Boutique Hotel) and my excellent tracking guide Bishal Kulung who knows the region well and helps to deal with everything even medical problems like high altitude sickness. To avoid that you need normally 11 days to reach base camp and come back. We took al helicopter down to shorten the trip which was part of our package and they included a nice fly by of the Everest mountain.
Only thing to keep in mind is that the facilities towards Everest base camp above the level of Lukla are very basic. The rooms can be cold so you need a proper sleeping bag which was provided by the organization Mountain Mart. Overall it was a great experience to do with my daughters with great views and challenging hikes.

Awesome ABC TREKKING IN 6 DAYS

The company and the guide (Ram) were recommended by a friend. It was a great recommendation. It was very easy and straight forward booking and organising the trekking.
Having Ram Bhandari as my guide on my side and Sujan Thapa as my porter made the trip very seemingly. Ram accommodated the trekking to my level hence we got up to ABC a day earlier which allowed for a more relaxed way back. He made sure i always had a great room, enough to drink and eat but especially he shared more about the nature, the culture and the people. This was very interesting for me being in Nepal the first time. At the same time he gave me all the courage and support through the days.
In the evenings we spent time together with other trekkers and enjoyed learning Nepalese card game as well. Having somebody like Ram on my side meant i felt always safe, well taken care off and i would say we were a good team, the 3 of us. If i come back for more trekking, i will def would wanna have Ram as my guide again.
